After running the Las
Vegas marathon on January 30 Sheila , Lise and I were fortunate
enough to have the time to take a 2 day trip to the South Rim of
the Grand Canyon. Lise and I had been before but this would be Sheila's
first experience at looking down into the "Big Hole" as
some locals call it. She was justify ably blown away by the awesome
sites. And so were Lise and I as a trip to the Canyon is never the
same as the colours shift all the time depending on numerous variables,
like sun angle, humidity, cloud cover etc.
This time we had the
added bonus of being able to hike part way down the South Kaibob
Trail. The path is a fairly steep on that goes from the South Rim
at Yaqui Point to the Colorado River, 5,000 feet below. It takes
a good day to hike the whole thing so we had to stop about 1/2 way
down to ensure we would be back safely on the Rim before dark.
Needless to say the
hike was awesome and should be a must do if you visit the Canyon.
Next time we will definitely make the time to get to the bottom.
