Have you made the resolution to get in shape and remain committed to running but just can't find the motivation? Well don't give up! Add the 2010 SudburyROCKS!!! Race, Run, or Walk for Diabetes to your fitness goals. Sign up to race, run, or walk on May 2nd, 2010 and give yourself a goal to work towards.

The SudburyROCKS!!! Race, Run, or Walk for Diabetes is open for registration for the 5K, 10K, half marathon, full marathon, 1K kid's events, and team marathon relay challenge.

The Team Relay is a new addition to SudburyROCKS. We challenge you to gather up to 8 of your friends, family, and co-workers to run approximately 5K each and collectively complete the marathon route.

Think that's all we have in store? Don't forget to join us for our pasta dinner on Saturday May 1. Tickets are $25 each and only a limited number are available, so purchase early! Held for the first time at Respect is Burning (ribsupperclub.com), enjoy a truly one-of-a-kind experience with rustic Italian soul food at one of Sudbury's best restaurants. While there, enjoy the music of singer/songwriter Angie Nussey (www.angienussey.com). Raised in Lively, Ontario, Angie began playing piano and writing songs at the age of 7. Now at 31 years of age, with eight years of creating, releasing, and touring, five full length albums, and a wealth of experiences to draw from, this boldly honest songwriter solidly prepares to release her most prized possession through music: Herself. Look for "Little Tragedies" in stores and online.

Support the Canadian Diabetes Association and help make strides in diabetes research. All pledges and proceeds go towards diabetes research, and programs and services of the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Rocks!! Runners are Skiers Too

The 54th annual Soo Finnish Nordic ski loppet was held this past weekend at Hiawatha Highlands. Rocks!! members, Sara McIlraith, Neil Phipps and Kate Richards exchanged their running shoes in favour of ski boots, and competed in both classic and skate races. The race course was a very hilly trail, so all that hill running training really paid off for us. Yeah hills! Neil had a very strong 10km classic race Saturday, finishing 1st place with at time of 36:09, Sara also won gold in the 10k skate race, finishing in 40:54. Kate competed both days, placing 5th in the 2km classic and an impressive 2nd in the 2 km skate.

The next ski event is the Sophie Manarin Loppet, Sunday January 24th at Laurentian University. This is the first event of the 2010 Sudbury Fitness Challenge. I encourage all runners to come out and try x-country skiing – it is a great cross training sport for running, and is a fun way to enjoy the snow and winter.”
