A Rock Runs in New Zealand
by Laurel Leconte

Julie and sister Laurel |
I
have been very fortunate, today was my first full day in New
Zealand and I was able to participate in a race!
There is a Brooks 5k race series in Wellington which is
a weekly race along the waterfront.
For $7 entry you get a well organized timed race, chance
for prizes and free beer afterwards
There was a great turnout and the scenery of the out and
back run along bay and harbourfront was lovely. The results
are not posted yet but the website is below. I think I ran
a 21:25 and my sister Julie was not that far behind
I am enjoying the sun and mild weather and and am enjoying
the snow-free training thoroughly. Lots of hills to train
on and people running, cycling and swimming everywhere
I have enclosed a link to the website where the official
results should be posted and also a pic of Julie and I enjoying
our free beer after the race
Merry Christmas
Laurel

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!
We are still in need of
volunteers for the Resolution Run. If you are unable to
run that day or are supporting a runner, come on out and
help with the race. The run takes place on January 1st
at noon. We need marshals, a sweep, and a couple of people
to help with timing and race kit pick up on the day of
the race. If you are interested in helping out, please
call the store at 523-4664 or email us at sudbury@runningroom.com.
Food and drinks will be provided for the volunteers as
well as the runners.
Thanks for your help!

Running Room Today
TRAINING TIP:
We have been experiencing some snowy, slippery, icy
conditions...how fun!!! Just like winter driving we
sometimes forget how to do it at the beginning of
the season so here are a few reminders:
Shorten your stride slightly to ensure you don't over-step
and slip, running the risk of falling or pulling a
muscle.
Ensure you are wearing coolmax/smartwool/driwright
socks to keep your feet dry and thus WARM!
In really slick conditions put "get a grips"
or "yak trax" on your shoes. These handy
grippers will ensure a more confident stride
When running/walking on the roads make sure you are
SINGLE file in busy areas...the roads get narrower
with snow banks and we aren't trying to be a target
for the cars, but the roads are tended to before sidewalks
and will be better for footing.
