MERRY CHRISTMAS 2009

Join us for our Annual Sudbury Rocks!! Santa Hat Rund

Everyone is invited to join the Sudbury Rocks!! Running Club for our Annual Santa Hat Run. The event is an informal celebration of the season where members, friends and enthusiasts get together for a casual run through Sudbury neighbourhoods. The Club's official meeting place for runs is at Laurentian University's new Fieldhouse. For our Santa Hat Run we will meet in the lobby of the Ben Avery Building beside the new Fieldhouse at 9:00 am and after the official Santa Hat photo, the group will take to the streets for runs of about 1/2 hour to 90 minutes (nothing longer today please). Coffee and sweets will be served in the Ken Bahnuk Lounge after the group have returned. All runners are welcome. Don't forget to bring your Santa hats or toques. Coffee is supplied by Lise and Vince. Treats are welcomed.

December 5, 2009

The Sudbury Running Room and the Salvation Army teamed up to present the Annual Santa Shuffle 5k and Elf Walk on Saturday at the Sudbury Running Room. Santa and his wife were there to start the events. Santa also presented the young Elf Walkers with special finishing prizes. Buzzy Brown's donated their facility for the awards ceremony after the event where free hot chocolate, coffee and soup were provided for all.

Over 100 people took part in the event this year and over $5,000 was raised. The money will go to providing necessities for needy families in Sudbury this Christmas.

Thank you all for participating and volunteering.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Dazzles the Las Vegas Strip

Las Vegas, NV – A momentous, entertainment extravaganza featuring two white Bengal tigers, Vegas showgirls, skydivers and a 15 minute fireworks show greeted more than 27,600 runners at the start line of the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon and Half Marathon, powered by Zappos.com for the benefit of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. For the first time in Las Vegas marathon history, the entire Strip was closed in both directions for the event.

Runners from all 50 states and 39 countries participated in the event. The unprecedented race course looped around the world-famous 'Welcome to Las Vegas Sign' and was highlighted by the Strip's renowned attractions including the Treasure Island pirate ship, Mirage volcano and Bellagio fountains. The race featured over 300 running Elvi, 85 couples getting married in front of the Paris Casino, along with live bands at every mile of the course.

Sudbury and area sent representatives to both the half and marathon. Brent Walker, Diane Carriere and Bill Rossetto competed in the full. Melissa Palladino, Mary Elizabeth Taillefer, Linda McCosham and Daniel Welch took part in the half.
