Rattlesnake PointEnduro Race (12.7 km)

Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area, Milton, Ontario

Our Trail Rocks!! members Karen Beaulieu and Monique Fournier ran in the 5 Peaks Trail Running Series Rattlesnake Point 12.7k Enduro this Saturday. The event was the third of 5 this season in Southern ON. The ladies plan on completing the full series. Results Here

Touted as perhaps the most technical of the Ontario courses, Rattlesnake has continually been a favourite. Situated along the Niagara Escarpment, runners are treated to the shade hardwood forests and some incredible single track.

Enduro 12.7 km: first 4.5 km is primarily hard packed double track that descends into the canyon; a challenging 350
m climb through the boulder run brings runners up to the top of the west side of the canyon; next 3 km is a
combination of very technical rocky single track and wide hard packed gravel path before descending back down into
the canyon via the Bypass Trail; the course then crosses the creek on 100 m of boardwalk before ascending out of
the canyon; remaining 3 km is a combination of hard pack dirt trails and 1.5 km of technical single track alongside
the top of the Escarpment; last kilometer opens up into double track to the finish. Website info

Rocks!! in TRi KiDS Oakville

Here is the newest member of the Washchuk Triathlon family. Our grandaughter, Carys (4 1/2 yrs old) participated in a Tri-Kids triathlon on the weekend in Oakville and placed in the top third of 95 finishers in her age bracket 3 yr to 5 yr olds. This age group had to swim 15 meters, bike 500 meters and run 100 meters. This event focuses on a positive, safe and non-competitive experience. Of course, we were proud grandparents.

From the website: A Triathlon Series Just For Kids!

Tri Kids Triathlon Series, Ontario’s newest series for kids, is excited to announce four races for the 2009 season. Mississauga, Oakville, Bracebridge and Milton are our host communities and each one provides a unique race setting. Tri Kids Triathlons are non-competitive, safe events designed for 3-15 year olds. We celebrate participation and promote fitness by having fun.

Our philosophy is one of complete not compete. Focusing on a positive experience and the extraordinary achievement of each young individual we hope to encourage a healthy lifestyle and inspire self-confidence.

The distance each participant completes will be based on their age on December 31, 2009 . They start off with a swim in the indoor pool and then head off on the traffic-free bike and run course. All that’s required is a swim suit, a bike in good working order, a helmet, running shoes and a bunch of enthusiasm. Family and friends won't want to miss this!

Each participant receives a unique Tri Kids race t-shirt, a swim cap, a goody bag and a finishers medal. Most importantly, each one is awarded a healthy boost of self-esteem and an experience to last a lifetime.
