June 7, 2009 North Bay On

The 4th annual Run/Walk 4 Patrick took place this Sunday in North Bay. All runs (2k, 5k, 10k and Half) start and finish by the lake in Lee Park after touring the Kate Pace Way.

This event is in memory of Patrick Fortin who was diagnosed HIV positive at age 7 due to tainted blood. The Patrick4Life organization is raising awareness of HIV/AIDS in his name through various educational activities. This healthy event provides a positive way for our organization to connect with the community and help raise awareness.

A record 696 walkers and runners came out to enjoy the day and to race their feet off. Rocks!! members acquitted themselves very well with 3 age group first place finishes from Russ Thom (5k), Shawn Schryer and Stephanie Koett (1/2). Results Here.

Congratulations to all on your successes and thank you for supporting an excellent event.

What a Great Race EXPERIENCE!!!!!

by Stephanie Koett
My chauffeur (AKA Lawrie) pulled in front of my driveway at 5:45 am accompanied by Russ and Dale. The morning was typical of the cool spring days that we have been experiencing. The race course is an out and back along the “Kate Pace” way, but this is overshadowed by the picturesque scenery that is presented along the route. My goal at the start of the race was a higher intensity run for 21 km. While running, I met and chatted with several runners. Despite my socializing, I finished in 1:38:30. To my pleasant surprise, the finishers were presented with stainless steel water bottles in lieu of plastic, and very unique necklace style “medals”.
Thanks to the race organizers for a great event.

Run Club Update

The Running Room Club Update:
Sudbury Store (Cedar Pointe Plaza)

Hello everyone!

In this past week, all our clinics made it up and running (ha-ha!). After a relaxed couple of weeks between clinics, we now have gads of runners and oodles of walkers. When you come out to Practice Club this week, you will see a whole bunch of new people out walking and running – it seems like everyone wants to take advantage of the great summer weather.

Tip of the week:

Focus on having fun and enjoying each run (or walk).
If you are new to running/walking and honest in your response you may say that it hurts and is not enjoyable. Well, for those of you, be patient. Generally, it takes about 8 to 10 weeks for our bodies to become conditioned enough for the minor aches and pains we have in the beginning to go away. You can then start to enjoy your running/walking and have fun. To start with in the early part of your journey, try to find a buddy to run/walk with. Having a friend to run/walk with will help you distract yourself from the physical process and provide you with the motivation to continue.

What Steve is listening to:

Song
Artist

Thunderstruck
AC/DC

Midnight Train to Georgia
Gladys Knight and the Pips

All Out of Love
Air Supply

Wake Me Up Before You Go Go
Wham

Sweet Emotion
Aerosmith

Next week - songs from the year Steve was born…

This week’s product highlight:

There are 21 days left to take advantage of the $50 Garmin rebate. This offer applies to the 405, the 405 with Heart Rate Monitor and the 405 CX with Heart Rate Monitor. This watch continuously monitors time, distance, pace, calories and heart rate (when paired with heart rate monitor). Each run is stored in memory so you can review and analyze the data to see how you’ve improved. You can even download recorded courses to compete against previous workouts or race a Virtual Partner®. Customize Forerunner’s data screens for instant feedback while you train.
