Sudbury's
Most Successful Run Yet

More
Photos Here
from Sudbury
Run Co Director Manuela Vairo:
Thank you so
much for your commitment to this year's CIBC Run for the
Cure. It was a Huge success surpassing last year's totals!
Joining 170,000
in 55 communities in Canada - you helped to paint a huge
pink ribbon across our nation and together raised over $28.5
million!
In Sudbury -
With 1264 participants in attendance it was record breaking
year with funds raised
of almost $234,000 and the money is still coming in today!
Without the
support of our Sponsors, Committee and volunteers it would
not have been possible.....
thank you for helping us get closer to a future without
breast cancer.
Please mark
your calendars for next year's Run on Sunday, Oct. 4th.

from Media Director Stephanie Deschenes:
There were so many inspiring stories that I'm not sure
what to choose from! The kids at Churchill Public School
raised an amazing $9,000 - they tripled their goal of $3,000.
Their spirit and dedication brought tears to my eyes. The
Dialysis Divas have been raising money since last October
and Mach 8 - well, what can any of us say about that team???
Every year they shatter their own records. Since 2000, that
team alone has raised more than a quarter of a million dollars!
Their team captain, Myra Gerow, is an inspiration. A breast
cancer survivor and fundraiser extraordinaire, she alone
raised almost $10,000!
|
from Team Co Director Vince Perdue:
This event is primarily a fundraiser. Most people who participate
walk or stroll around with friends or team members. That
being said, we still like to reward a few of those who strive
to get to the finish line as fast as possible. We provide
awards for the the top 3 Males, the top 3 Females, the First
Survivor, the First Youth Male and the First Youth Female.
As the results show it was very competitive at the front
end. Congratulations to all participants.

| Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
To all team captains and team members, you’ve
helped raise an incredible $234,000. to help create
a future without Breast Cancer. I hope everyone had
a great time. To me the day is about remembrance,
celebration and hope. Thank you to those team captains

A BIG THANK YOU to All
members of Team "Sudbury
Rocks!! Running Club". Our
24 participants walked, strolled, jogged
and ran their way around the 5k course.
And that was the easy part - the icing
on the cake. The tough part was the fund
raising and we were fully up to the task.
Our Team raised $2665 at last count. That
may just make a difference in somebody's
life.

100+
Ride for the Cure

More
Photos Here
April McAllister, photo above, organized
Team HORSEnAROUND for the first time last year. The team
returned with renewed vigour this year as April was able
to pull together over 100 participants for a Saturday
ride in the Valley. As the photos show, a horse is definitely
an asset if you wish to join this team. This year April
and her riders successfully raised over $4400. Kudos to
the Team.

A Rock!! Runs #2
Rocks!! member Ken Stubbings has embarked
on a quest to run 6 marathons in 6 weeks. His first was
a very successful outing at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront
Marathon last week where he turned a fast 2:56:09 net.
This week was #2 in Prince Edward County and he pulled
off another good run with a time of 3:01:42.7 net. Just
4 more to go now. Next up are Ottawa's Fall Colours Marathon,
the Toronto Marathon, followed by Niagara. He will complete
the mission in November at the Hamilton Marathon.
Ken writes:
The fifth anniversary
of the PEC Marathon was very colourful today. No not the
guy in the pink running skirt. He was not there this time.
The trees were in full colour. The race started out quite
cool. The wind was low. The sun peaked out with about
1 hour left to finish, but it did not heat up too much.
|
My
experience from last fall and this spring proved that I should
finish about 5 minutes slower than last week. And history
repeated itself again; 5 minutes slower then Scotia Bank.
Yes Vince I started out nice and slow again. And yes Vince
it paid off. Wipe that smile off your face. I know you are
grinning ear to ear because you were right. (I hate when he
is right.)
Lynn was very pleased with her run in the half marathon. She
finished at her expected time, injury free. Way to go Lynn.
We are off to the Ottawa Fall Colours Marathon next week.
Never done this one before. Never done 3 in a row before.
Happy Turkey Day next week. My Thanksgiving feast will consist
of Power Gels and Gatorade. Mmmmm!!

Rocks!! Run the Budapest
30k
|
Paul Washchuk and his son Sean traveled far to get this
30k in. Go east of Austria and you're in the right area.
Budapest is in the upper middle of Hungary. The famous "Blue
Danube" river flows through the middle of the city.
I don't know what the water colour truly is, just quoting
Strauss.

Rocks!! Run Rock/Creek
50k Trail Run

Three trail running Rocks!! made it 2 in
a row in Tennessee this Saturday when they took on the
challenging Rock/Creek 50k Trail Run. To add to the difficulty
Karen Beaulieu, Monique Fournier and Christine Delahunty
had just completed the 17.5 Mile Hawe Ridge Trail Run
in northern Tennessee only one week ago.
From the Site: Come run the premiere
50K trail race in the Southeast. Taking place on a beautiful
dirt-packed trail with Tennessee mountain stone thrown
in, and with a 2200 ft. elevation gain. Looking for a
shorter race on the same beautiful trail? You're in luck!
There will be an 11 Mile course offered as well.
The Ladies only scoffed at the mere mention
of the shorter distance and all attacked the long course
with eager anticipation. And.... after a few hours...
all were finished...AND ALL WERE SUCCESSFUL. Congratulations
on your brilliant efforts.
