Sudbury Running Room's

Water Waddle 5k and Minnow Lake 10k Results

A big pat on the back to all those runners and volunteers who came out to support the Canadian Red Cross on Sunday at the Minnow Lake 5k and 10k. Rainy conditions did not deter this great and determined group of runners. Congratulations to Mary Thompson and Derek Coe on being first female and male across the finish line in the 5k. Sarah Mcilraith and Glen Hill had very strong runs to win their respective divisions in the 10k.

Jeremy Cooper

Jeremy Cooper Wins Gold in Cowichan B.C.

Jeremy Cooper of Manitowaning On. struck gold (4) times in the North American Indigenous Games held this year in Cowichan B.C. on Vancouver Island. He won in convincing fashion in all of the events from the 400m, 800m, 1500 and the the 5k Cross Country. He also helped Team Ontario claim silver in the 4x400m. (All Results Here)

Jeremy is 15 years old and currently trains with Track North when he can get into town and is coached by Darren Jermyn and Dick Moss. He often runs alone or with his dog on e-mail instructions from Darren.

Jeremy is also a member of the Sudbury Rocks!! Running Club and we are proud to call him one of us.

Jeremy Cooper wasn't the only local at the games. Geoffrey Corbiere of Little Current competed in the Midget 800m and 1500m. He came a very respectable 5th and 9th overall in those events.

Rocks!! Run the Dream for Autism

with Jonathan Howard and Terry Robinson

Autism Coffee Chat – Sudbury Ontario with Trish Kitching welcomed Jonathan Howard And Terry Robinson(Two-Time Para-Olympian) for the "Run the Dream" for Autism at Brady Square this Wednesday at 12:00 pm. Numerous speakers including the Deputy Mayor and a singer from Manitowaning pledged their support to the cause and the 2 athletes.

The Sudbury Rocks!! Running Club was invited to pace Jonathan and Terry into town on Jonathon's cross country run. We were honoured to pace the 2 for the 10k stretch from 69 south to City Hall with full police escort. The group commenced with about 15 runners and about 15 more came onboard at Science North for the home stretch. Thank you all for participating especially Paul Washchuk, Christine Delahunty, Paul Pressacco, Leila Kurkimaki, Drew Anderson, Laura Anderson and Emily Anderson.

Run The Dream is a coast-to-coast solo run across Canada by Jonathan Howard, a 24 year old resident of Mississauga, Ontario to raise awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and a targeted $2.5 million, in support of charities that work to assist children with ASD and their families. Jonathan started his run in St. John’s, Newfoundland on March 25, 2008 and will finish in Victoria, British Columbia in December 2008. In this time span, Jonathan will run approximately 8,500 kilometres, and visit more than 650 communities in 10 provinces. Sudbury is very close to the half way point for Jonathan. Terry Robinson joined on in Ottawa ans will stay with Jonathan across Ontario until Winnipeg Manitoba.

Jonathan is proud to dedicate his run, and his efforts to raising awareness and charitable donations to support the people who dedicate their lives turning the dreams of children with ASD, and their families, into miracles and abilities.

Rocks!! Run the E.T. Challenge

August 10, 2008 Moonbeam ON

Rocks!! member Suzanne Dionne and her nephew Eric Dionne traveled north to their home turf on Sunday to take part in Moonbeam's E.T Tri and 1/2 Marathon. The Tri course was a 750m swim, a 25k bike and a 5k run. The swim was shortened this year due to weather.

Suzanne reports: Eric won the triathlon and his time was 1.19. including 25km bike, 5km run and only half of the swim that was planned.
I did my half in 2.08.32. I'm very happy with this and feel great today. They were only 7 of us and I came in 4th. The winner - 2.01. It was quite windy but we had great shelter on the trails. Up -hill start but what goes up must come down.
Great prizes. Started on time. Very well spaced for volunteers and liquids.
Loved having the bikes coming the same way as us.

JOIN TEAM SUDBURY ROCKS!! RUNNING CLUB

by Sheila Yaw-MacLean

I've registered The Sudbury Rocks!! Running Club team once again to participate in this year's CIBC Run For The Cure for Breast Cancer taking place Sunday October 5th. Let's help find a cure for breast cancer. Below are registration instructions to help you get started.
Thanks

August 13, 2008 Update: We have only (4) members registered so far. I would truly like to see many, many more. vince

HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE RUN FOR THE CURE

Go to www.cibcrunforthecure.com

If you were registered on-line last year and can remember your user name and password, enter them and the forms will all be there are well as your team history. At the end, make sure you join team SUDBURY ROCKS RUNNING CLUB, or enter my name, SHEILA YAW-MACLEAN, as team captain.

To register from scratch:

Under “Register” Click "Join a Team"

Choose a site "Sudbury"

Click "Register"

Answer the series of questions, on the third page it will then ask for the team name

Enter SUDBURY ROCKS RUNNING CLUB or if you have trouble use my name as team captain SHEILA YAW-MACLEAN and our team should come up.

Do not pay the registration fee of $35. Check that you will raise the $150. You can do that on-line, in-person or in a combination of the two.

You will receive a “confirmation of registration” email that will have an attachment – your personalized sponsor sheet that you can print out and start collecting donations.

I will need to get your donation sheets by September 27th (latest). I will let you know drop off points.

Any donations that you have received on-line I will know about as I can access all the teams’ on-line totals.

I highly recommend sending emails to friends and family to get donations. There are tools to do that once you log in to your account and you never have to handle any money. It’s really easy.
