Sudbury Rocks!! and Friends Expand Boundaries

HI RES Photo Here

The Sudbury Rocks!! Running Club expands its boundaries once again as we make inroads into South Carolina. We will soon have members living in Fort Mill in the northern part of the state. Unfortunately it does mean that 2 of our long standing members are leaving Ontario. Jan and Brent Weeres will be departing their home in Naughton in August for a new adventure in the southern U.S. The change will provide upgraded career opportunities for Brent with Weyerhaeuser and new roads to train on for Jan.

Gerry Lada with the assistance of Sheila Yaw-MacLean hosted a send-off celebration on Sunday July 27 where running war stories were told and retold and embellished with great gusto. The collage of running photos (see above photo) prepared by Monique Fournier was enough to bring Brent to a liquid eye moment as he addressed the group. He quickly recovered passing further speech duties to Jan.

Jan has been with our group from its beginnings. We've shared numerous experiences in every run distance up to the marathon including the unique Cabot Trail Relay and of course the Boston Marathon. The non swimmers in the group were only able to observe Jan's further foray into triathlons ultimately culminating at the full Iron man distance with her successful completion of the Ironman USA in Lake Placid and then Florida. Ironman Canada is on the schedule for next year.

Brent's running carreer has been a tad more 'low key' but he has dutifully ran in 5ks, that unique Cabot Trail Relay and at least one 1/2 marathon where he handily outdistanced his designated pacer in the last 500m. Brent's role has been more one of support over the years. Someone must provide funds for the 'tri' habit. His new position will help cement that role for years to come.

Yes, we expand our territory but Jan and Brent will be truly missed by all. Your friendship and group contributions have been so much appreciated. We wish you both all the best in your new endeavours.

Vince (on behalf of all Rocks!! and Friends)

JOIN TEAM SUDBURY ROCKS!! RUNNING CLUB

by Sheila Yaw-MacLean

I've registered The Sudbury Rocks!! Running Club team once again to participate in this year's CIBC Run For The Cure for Breast Cancer taking place Sunday October 5th. Let's help find a cure for breast cancer. Below are registration instructions to help you get started.
Thanks

HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE RUN FOR THE CURE

Go to www.cibcrunforthecure.com

If you were registered on-line last year and can remember your user name and password, enter them and the forms will all be there are well as your team history. At the end, make sure you join team SUDBURY ROCKS RUNNING CLUB, or enter my name, SHEILA YAW-MACLEAN, as team captain.

To register from scratch:

Under “Register” Click "Join a Team"

Choose a site "Sudbury"

Click "Register"

Answer the series of questions, on the third page it will then ask for the team name

Enter SUDBURY ROCKS RUNNING CLUB or if you have trouble use my name as team captain SHEILA YAW-MACLEAN and our team should come up.

Do not pay the registration fee of $35. Check that you will raise the $150. You can do that on-line, in-person or in a combination of the two.

You will receive a “confirmation of registration” email that will have an attachment – your personalized sponsor sheet that you can print out and start collecting donations.

I will need to get your donation sheets by September 27th (latest). I will let you know drop off points.

Any donations that you have received on-line I will know about as I can access all the teams’ on-line totals.

I highly recommend sending emails to friends and family to get donations. There are tools to do that once you log in to your account and you never have to handle any money. It’s really easy.

Please call me if you have any questions. I’m at 692-9431 OR 522-9159.

Welcome to Team SUDBURY ROCKS RUNNING CLUB

Cheers,

Sheila

Run Club Update

HELLO EVERYONE!!!

We hope everyone is having an awesome week and you are outside enjoying your runs/walks. There are some new updates here that we would like to share with you. First of all we have a ton of new clinics starting this week. On Monday July 28th the new 5k (6:30pm) and LTR (6:00pm) clinics started up and it looks like a really fun and exciting bunch. Also on Friday Aug 1 we have our For Women Only clinic starting up which is at 6pm. If you want to get in on this action but haven't yet, don't worry because you can sign up for the clinics up until week 3.

Another exciting thing we are doing here at the running room is the Water Waddle 5k/Minnow lake 10. This is a fun run that we are organizing here at the Running Room. It is going to be held on Sunday August 10th at 9:30am. The race starts at the Minnow Lake Place and is ran around Minnow Lake. The race is a donation only, and the donations will go towards Red Cross. It will be a great graduation race for those of you in the 5 and 10 kilometer clinics. If you want anymore information on the run just come into the store and ask Reed or Amanda at the Running Room.

Also here is some information regarding the on-line clinics that will be preparing for the upcoming Run For The Cure run that is in October.
