Sunday June 8, 2008
North Bay's third annual Run4Patrick
Family Fest took place this weekend at Lee Park.
This event is in memory of Patrick Fortin who was diagnosed
HIV positive at age 7 due to tainted blood. The Patrick4Life
organization is raising awareness of HIV/AIDS in his name
through various educational activities.
Participants had the choice of distances
from 2k to 5k, 10k and the 1/2 marathon. All distances
were well represented as 546 walkers/runners crossed the
finish line. Sudbury and area athletes took part as well.
Congratulations All! (results
here).
Free brunch and entertainment followed the
Runs - all in a nice setting on North Bay's waterfront.
The Run4Patrick has become an excellent
family event and a very worthwhile addition to your race
calendar. Keep it in mind for next year.

Run
Club Update |
Hi gang!
We're entering into our second week of clinics...you
know what that means? It's bring a buddy week! If
you're in a clinic right now, or you come to our practice
walks and runs, why not bring a pal with you this
time around? This is an awesome way for people who
are new to running and walking to see what we're all
about here at the Running Room. Is your friend not
running or walking quite as much as you are right
now? That's OK - we have groups of all speeds and
distances at practice time, and our clinics always
start off nice and slow.
If you're not in a clinic right now - sign up soon!
There's only one week left to register for this round
of clinics! Our schedule at the Sudbury Running Room
is:
Monday
6 pm 5k clinic
6:30 pm Learn to Run clinic
Wednesday
6 pm Practice time! A group for all speeds and distances!
Thursday
6 pm 10 k clinic
Friday
6pm Learn to Run; For Women only
Sunday
8:30 am Practice Time! A great way to justify Sunday
Brunch!
We also have our Half and Full marathon (both walking
and running) starting this June 24th! If you are looking
to target a fall half or full marathon - we'll get
you to the start line healthy and confident!
Remember - we're always looking for clinic instructors!
Being an instructor is always a great experience and
an awesome way to share your walking and running know-how.
Of course, we'll help you out all the way through.
If interested or if you have any questions about how
to become a clinic instructor, give us a shout!
A big thank you to all those how participated in
our Poker Run on Sunday! It was a blast to see everybody
line-up for a nice fun run with plenty of food afterwards.
Congrats to our "medalists" who finished
the run with the best poker hands!
A quick note on the store - we have been fully restocked
with both Nike Sportbands and Garmin 405's, as well
as some great looking Nike apparel for women that
is flying off the shelves! Drop by the store and check
it out!
See you all at practice!
happy trails,
from your Running Room crew.

LU Track to be
Rebuilt - Announcement
Just a quick update and some great news!
The Laurentian University has announced the re-build
of
the outdoor 400m track. The funding for the new track
and field
should start this summer and will be completed either
this summer, or
next, depending on the weather.
This isn't just a resurfacing. Phase one of the project,
which starts
this summer, will involve a complete excavation and re-build
of the
track and include a new infield. Phase 2 of the project
will involve
renovating the stadium, and new equipment, including electronic
scoreboards, lighting etc.
The new indoor track is coming along. They are just insulating
the
outdoor walls and will be applying the outside facade
fairly soon.
Projected completion time is this September.
So, within two years at the latest, you'll have two new
tracks (an
indoor and outdoor) on Laurentian's campus to train on!
The announcement for the track is at this link:

P.S. In case you weren't aware, the Laurentian track
was the host of
the 1988 World Junior Track and Field Championships, and
has also
hosted the Pan-Am Juniors, four OFSAA Championships, the
National
Legion championships. Laurentian's track was also the
training site for
the East German Olympic team before the Montreal Olympics.
