Run Club Update

Hi there!

Some exciting news for the store - we have been restocked with both the Garmin 405 and the NIKE sportband! These are sure to move very fast, so get yours quick! These are both great tools to monitor your speed and distance this summer. Best of all, they are both able to replace your normal wristwatch - this can be your way of letting acquaintances know that they are dealing with a walker or runner .

Our new round of clinics have started! We had a great first night for both the 5k and Learn to Run on Monday. We have the 10k clinic starting on Thursday (June 5th at 6 pm) and our For Women only (learn to run program) start on Friday June 6th, also at 6 pm. Clinics are a great way to achieve your running and walking goals, meet like-minded people and HAVE FUN!

If you are not able to make it out for this first week...DON'T WORRY! You can register for these clinics anytime before the third week.

Our big event for this week is THE POKER RUN!!!

WHEN: Normal practice time - Sunday morning at 8:30 am.

WHERE: The Sudbury Running Room - 1984 Regent street.

WHAT: Two events will be held - a 5k and a 10k distance. The 5k will be an out and back along Loaches road/path. The 10k will be a loop around the University campus. Runners and walkers will pick up 5 normal playing cards along the way (handed to you by our volunteers) - the last of which you will get as you cross the finish line. The runner/walker with the best poker hand at the end wins!

MOST IMPORTANT: potluck afterwards! While we are finding the best poker hands - you can enjoy some tasty treats.

DON'T FORGET - we have practice this (and every) Wednesday at 6 pm and Sunday morning at 8:30 am. See you there!

Happy trails,
from your Running Room crew

LU Track to be Rebuilt - Announcement

Just a quick update and some great news!

The Laurentian University has announced the re-build of
the outdoor 400m track. The funding for the new track and field
should start this summer and will be completed either this summer, or
next, depending on the weather.

This isn't just a resurfacing. Phase one of the project, which starts
this summer, will involve a complete excavation and re-build of the
track and include a new infield. Phase 2 of the project will involve
renovating the stadium, and new equipment, including electronic
scoreboards, lighting etc.

The new indoor track is coming along. They are just insulating the
outdoor walls and will be applying the outside facade fairly soon.
Projected completion time is this September.

So, within two years at the latest, you'll have two new tracks (an
indoor and outdoor) on Laurentian's campus to train on!

The announcement for the track is at this link:

P.S. In case you weren't aware, the Laurentian track was the host of
the 1988 World Junior Track and Field Championships, and has also
hosted the Pan-Am Juniors, four OFSAA Championships, the National
Legion championships. Laurentian's track was also the training site for
the East German Olympic team before the Montreal Olympics.
