Rocks!! Headed for Boston
There are quite a few members of the Sudbury Rocks!!
Running Club traveling to Boston this year for the 112th
running of the marathon. Some have run the course more than
one time but at least 3 of our members are competing for
their first time. Good luck to all!.
Lise Perdue adds: Safe traveling
to all Sudbury Rocks heading to Boston this weekend. Have
fun you guys you trained hard to get there so enjoy every
minute.
The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon
and ranks as one of the world's most prestigious road racing
events. The Boston Athletic Association manages this American
classic, which is sponsored by John Hancock Financial Services.
The Boston Marathon has distinguished itself as the pinnacle
event within the sport of road racing by virtue of its traditions,
longevity and method of gaining entry into the race (via
qualification).
Below is a list of local runners (Sudbury only) You can
track their progress at the Boston

Marathon
bar over man's age claim
The Guinness Book of Records has refused to
accept a London Marathon runner's claim he is the race's
oldest runner, at 101 years of age.
Buster Martin, who was born in France and
raised in a British orphanage, has a certificate of naturalisation
but no birth certificate.
Guinness World Records said until it gets
sufficient evidence from Mr Martin proving his age they
cannot verify it.
Mr Martin said: "I'm 101. And that I'll
stick to as I know how old I am."
He has got British citizenship from the Home
Office that says how old he is
A spokeswoman for Guinness World Records said:
"Buster Martin has applied to us but he has not been
able to present sufficient evidence for us to verify his
age for the record.
"Until he does we will not be able to
confirm that he is the oldest man to run the London Marathon."
Mr Martin still works as a part-time valet
at a plumbing company in central London.
'Just amazing' A spokeswoman for Pimlico Plumbers
said Mr Martin completed the marathon in just under 10 hours
and had raised more than £20,000 for the Rhys Daniels
Trust. "Quite frankly, whether he is 94 years old or
100, what he has done is just amazing."
Guinness World Records lists the oldest man
to complete a marathon as the Greek runner Dimitrion Yordanidis,
aged 98, in Athens in 1976. He finished in seven hours 33
minutes.
The oldest woman to complete a marathon listed
by Guinness World Records is said to be Jenny Wood-Allen
who completed the London Marathon at the age of 90 in 2002.
She finished in 11 hours and 34 minutes.

Discomfort
Zone 2008 Spring Triathlon Camp
Asheville, North Carolina
April 20-27, 2008
Dear Fellow Triathletes and Multi-sport enthusiasts,
I am happy to announce that once again this year we will be
hosting a Triathlon Training Camp in the beautiful Blue Ridge
Mountains of Western North Carolina. Last year's camp was
a smashing success and saw each one of our campers set personal
bests in one or more aspects of their training. Even better
was how much fun we all had and the new friendships that were
made.
This year our training camp will take place from April 20-27,
2008. The stunning city of Asheville North Carolina has access
to some of the best cycling terrain in North America and is
within a (long) day's drive of southern Ontario. Asheville
also has a very good airport close to where we are staying
with 1-stop flights from Toronto and Ottawa.
Campers from last year will remember the great swimming pool
and hot tub, the high quality cycling roads, the friendly
drivers, the great cafes and restaurants along the way, and
the endless running trails starting right at our doorstep.
We will be returning to some of the favourite routes and climbs
from last year's camp, and will be adding some new surprises,
including a day trip to the final mountain stage of the Tour
de Georgia cycling race where we can test our mettle on the
famous Brasstown Bald climb before watching the pros do it
later in the day.
For the Camp Fee of $695, you receive:
Airport pickup in Asheville (if required)
8 nights accommodation
7 full days of swim, bike, run, strength and flexibility training
on some of the best terrain in North America
Sport-specific video analysis (by request)
Evening discussions on a wide range of multisport topics
Discomfort Zone Technical T-shirt
Discomfort Zone cycling socks
Please forward this information to any athletes you know who
might be interested. If you have any questions or would like
to reserve a spot, please contact us at mike@discomfortzone.com |

Track North Rules and Schedules
Dear Track North Athletes, Parents and Sponsors:
Please find attached a copy of "Track
North News - Spring 2008".
Please read this newsletter as
it contains very important information regarding the upcoming
spring and summer track seasons.
Of utmost importance is
for everyone to ensure they are registered with the club
(whether you plan to compete or not) as soon as possible.
Legally, no athlete should be training with the club or
receiving coaching unless they are registered. Details regarding
registration are included in the newsletter.
We have also provided a list of potential competitions available
to Track North athletes this spring and summer. This is
not a complete list but it does include all meets the three
Track North coaches will be attending.
You will note we only have two Summer Twilight meets planned
this year for the LU Track as we are awaiting final word
if the track will be completely resurfaced later this summer.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please
don't hesitate to contact one of the Track North coaches!
See you all at practice!
