Our
Farewell to Cambrian
Rocks!!
Santa Hat Run 2007
|
| The
Rocks!! ran their very last Santa Hat Run from the Cambrian
Fitness Centre on Saturday December 22 as the Facility will
be closing its doors for good on December 31st. Our Santa
Runs have been going on for a few years and were always well
attended. The runs were fun and the food was even better afterward.
Don't worry too much about the loss of Cambrian. The Santa
Hat Run will live on. The location is yet to be revealed.
Keep tuned next year. |

All
Results
from the Organizers: Congratulations
to all the participants in this years 87th running of the
race. We continue to be lucky with the weather and again
had temperatures around freezing. Many runners ran in their
new technical shirts showing off their snowmen. The Hamilton
Harriers want to recognize the YMCA for the excellent venue
to put on the race, and The City of Hamilton for their excellent
work on the course and policing to keep the runners same.
The volunteers who come out year after year to stand outside
for three hours keeping the runners on course and hydrated.
Check the website
out in the next several weeks, you might see yourself as
we update for 2008.

Cambrian Fitness
Centre Closes Doors
| On Monday December 31 members of the Sudbury
Rocks!! Running Club will get to use Cambrian Fitness Centre's
135m indoor track for the very last time. Yes it's true. The
Centre has been sold and will officially close its doors on
December 31. I know our members will be somewhat scattered
as they search for facilities meeting their needs therefore
in the new year I will leave the weekday run locations open.
A few individuals have expressed interest in doing Monday
and Thursday speed sessions at the Valley East indoor facility.
At present we also have Rocks!! runners joining the Running
Room groups on Wednesday evening and Sunday mornings.
I will schedule the Saturday runs from Laurentian
University's Athletic Building. The intent is to
fully move the Club there when the new indoor track opens. |
Rocks!!
Training Schedule
(Effective
January 1, 2008)
Due
to the closing of the Cambrian Fitness Centre our
weekday runs will be from different locations for
the winter months. If you are interested in joining
any of these, please call or e-mail for same day information.
The Saturday
morning run will be based out of the Laurentian University's
Athletic Building located on Athletic Building Rd.
off of South Bay Rd. Runners will meet in the main
lobby. Parking is free in all lots on the weekend.
Saturday at 9:00
am
The Saturday run is our long slow one with distances
varying from about one hour and up.
Don't
be afraid to come out as we can accommodate all levels
of runners

Good News for Minna
(Rocks!! Wheelchair
Athlete Extraordinaire)
| You probably know I've been partially sponsored by Vega
for 2 yrs now. Well with my 2nd place at the world sprint
trials and 2nd at the national masters sprint kayaking (while
i was still fighting the beginnings of those infections),
Vega decided to make me a fully sponsored athlete. This is
tremendous to me because I can order EVERYTHING they provide,
3 month supplies at a time -basically leaving my grocery bills
to feed myself i.e. rice, milk, some veggies and fruit and
other minor items. Vega is otherwise very expensive (about
$60/22 servings!).
I just received the good new of my full sponsorship and
training clothing as much as i need. I can't believe how
blessed I am. On top of that, the Guts and Glory event organizer
asked me to speak at the next yrs event. I will start with
speaking to high school kids in Jan. and Feb. It was just
a blessing to be their honoured guest at the last events...
and now to speak at the next one... wow.
It was ONLY through sport the ROCKS!!
being the first place I asked to join and was welcomed,
that I actually started to come out of my shell. I know
I am not of the kind of 'group' of people that typically
are members of ROCKS!! but no one has ever left me feeling
unwelcome or unwanted. I want to thank you for that opportunity
for without it, I may still be an inactive, morbidly obese
person locked up inside my home.
Thanks for taking me in to the ROCKS and never leaving me
feeling like i was a burden etc.
Congratulations Minna from Vince
and all us Sudbury Rocks!! members.

| Inspiration
for 2008
Each year I search the web for something to
get your juices flowing for the rigeurs of the coming year.
Sometimes they're resolutions. This year you will find inspirational
quotes from runners and others. Please enjoy.
- "Pressure is nothing more than the shadow of great
opportunity." Michael Johnson
- "Tough times don't last but tough people do."
A.C. Green
- "What matters is not necessarily the size of the
dog in the fight - it's the size of the fight in the dog."
Dwight D. Eisenhower
- "Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished
by people not smart enough to know they were impossible."
Doug Larson
- "Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting
before you get tired." Jules Renard
- "We can't all be heroes because someone has to
sit on the curb and clap as they go by." Will Rogers
- "I have met my hero, and he is me." George
Sheehan
- "The will to win means nothing if you haven't the
will to prepare." - Juma Ikangaa, 1989 NYC Marathon
winner
On the Marathon:
- We are different, in essence, from others. If you want
to win something, run 100 meters. If you want to experience
something, run a marathon.
Emil Zatopek
- To describe the agony of a marathon to someone who's
never run it is like trying to explain color to someone
who was born blind.
