Merry Christmas
Everyone is invited to join the Sudbury Rocks!! Running Club for our Annual Santa Hat Run. The event is an informal celebration of the season where members, friends and enthusiasts get together for a casual run through Sudbury neighbourhoods. We meet in the lobby of the Cambrian Fitness Centre on Lorne St. at 9:00 am and after the official Santa Hat photo, the group takes to the streets for runs of about 1/2 hour to 90 minutes. Coffee and sweets are served after the happy group have returned. All runners are welcome. Don't forget to bring your Santa hats or toques.

Merry Christmas

Cambrian Fitness Centre Closes Doors

On Monday December 31 members of the Sudbury Rocks!! Running Club will get to use Cambrian Fitness Centre's 135m indoor track for the very last time. Yes it's true. The Centre has been sold and will officially close its doors on December 31. I know our members will be somewhat scattered as they search for facililties meeting their needs therefore in the new year I will leave the weekday run locations open. A few individuals have expressed interest in doing Monday and Thursday speed sessions at the Valley East indoor facility. At present we also have Rocks!! runners joining the Running Room groups on Wednesday evening and Sunday mornings. I will schedule the Saturday runs from Laurentian University's Athletic Building. The intent is to fully move the Club there when the new indoor track opens.

Rocks!! Training Schedule

(Effective January 1, 2008)

Due to the closing of the Cambrian Fitness Centre our weekday runs will be from different locations for the winter months. If you are interested in joining any of these, please call or e-mail for same day information.

The Saturday morning run will be based out of the Laurentian University's Athletic Building located on Athletic Building Rd. off of South Bay Rd. Runners will meet in the main lobby. Parking is free in all lots on the weekend.

Saturday at 9:00 am

The Saturday run is our long slow one with distances varying from about one hour and up.

Run Club Update

Seasons Greetings!!

It has been a beautiful week of snowy weather! We hope everyone was cozy and warm while running and walking in the -15 and colder weather. In this week's email, we will have lots of new clothes updates, tips and deals for you!!!!!!!!!!! The sidewalks haven’t been plowed very well yet, so we commend all those walkers and runners who have continued to persist through the bad weather and night running! Way to keep up with a healthy lifestyle! You’ll be thanking yourself once those big holiday dinners roll around and the turkey is piling up! If you fee! l like over the holidays all that turkey, not to mention cookies and cake, are going to come back with a vengeance, our advice: come to free Practice Club on Wednesdays at 6:00pm or Sunday mornings at 8:30am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beginners are always welcome!! Or even better yet, make an early New Year’s Resolution and join one of our clinics starting up in the New Year! Not only will you get in shape, you will feel better, have more energy and make lots of new friends!!!!!

We are also currently scouting out Running Room Clinic instructors for the clinic of your choice! If you have ever wanted to share your own personal knowledge or experiences regarding running or walking come by the Running Room and sign up to become a Clinic Instructor. Whether you are an experienced runner/walker or just starting up the Running Room will help you plan and organize a successful and fun clinic for all participants.

Our hours are now extended to accommodate all of your shopping needs for these last seven days until Christmas! So this Saturday December 22nd we will be open from 9:00a.m. until 9:00p.m., and on Sunday December 23rd we are now open from 8:30a.m. until 8:00p.m.

Product highlight:

Champions Women’s Sports Bras are here!!!! A good rule of thumb is every time you need a new pair of shoes (many of which are now at a new lower price), you should get a new sports bra to ensure you are receiving the proper support and are as comfortable as possible during your winter activities, so now is as good a time as any with all that bad weather starting up to load up on new equipment!

And guys, for you we have the ever popular windbriefs in stock, a great layering item with all of the wicked winter weather we have had over the past couple of weeks.

And remember: American Express and Michelina's coupons are only good until the end of the month. With so few shopping days left, These coupons are a great way to take advantage of some outstanding deals!

Tip of the week:

Looking to get a little extra benefit this winter? Well, hit the road! If you can bear the cold weather, it is definitely worth it! In the winter, by running the exact same run indoors as outdoors, you burn 12% more calories and 32% more fat by running outdoors! This is because your body burns calories to maintain a steady body temperature. So when is a better time for your bodies natural thermostat to kick in then in that –20 degree weather? As a bonus, you increase your vitami! n D intake and your overall wellbeing because on a beautiful winter day, who wants to be indoors?

Upcoming events:

Registration is open online for the Hypothermic Half on February 3rd. Spots are limited to the first 75 runners and walkers, so if you are interested in a mid-winter fun fest you had better hurry! This one fills up fast!

With the 2008 season fast approaching we are again looking for dedicated runners and walkers who are interested in being pace rabbits for the following events: Chilly Half, Around the Bay, Mississauga full marathon and half marathon, Scotiabank full and half, Toronto full and half and Niagara Falls full and half. You must be able to run/walk 15 minutes faster than the time that you choose and 10 and 1's are a must. Other than that all that is needed is a smiling face and the drive to want to help you fellow runners/walkers achieve their goals. What you get is free entry to the event, a free Running Room tech tee and a one of a kind bunny hat! If this sounds like something that you are interested in then please contact Chris Evans at cevans@runningroom.com.
