Delki-Dozzi End-of-Season
Stage Race

September 1st and 2nd, 2007

The Sudbury Cycling Club hosted the Delki-Dozzi End-of-Season Stage Race this Saturday and Sunday. The first event (Saturday) was a 10k Time Trial, and the second event (Sunday) was a 35k to 45k Criterium. Both were held on the Delki-Dozzi track.

Rocks!! members Bob Bagley and Brent Walker participated in both the Time Trial and the Criterium. Brent worked extra hard doing the Trial and Criterium on the same day. Both riders improved from their spring outing. Pelleton riding takes practice.

Time Trial Practices

The Sudbury Cycling Club and Nickel City Triathlon Team are inviting all members of both clubs/teams to participate in time trial practices on Wed Sept 12th at 6:00pm &/or Saturday 29th 8:30 am. Locations and distances will be posted on websites closer to the date. These events are being held to estimate interest for next seasons calendar of events.

Loach's Trail Safety

Be Careful on Loach's Trail!!

from Dick Moss - Track North

A word of warning. Three women were accosted on Loach's Trail last night by a man, about 6 feet tall, slim, in his 40's. It was about 9:30 PM (it was dark). So be careful. Stay off of Loach's when it's dark - at least until they catch this guy...and/or be with a partner. The trail is well travelled in the day, but be very alert and if someone calls you over, stay away.

2008 Boston Marathon Registration to Open
on Wednesday, September 5

from: info@baa.org

Boston, Mass. – Online registration for the 112th Boston Marathon, scheduled for April 21, 2008, will begin at 9:00 a.m. eastern time on Wednesday, September 5. Held on Patriots' Day, a Massachusetts holiday, Boston is the world's oldest annual marathon. Since 1986, the principal sponsor of the Boston Marathon has been John Hancock Financial Services.

In coordination with the launch of registration for next year's race, the B.A.A. has announced that the maximum field size for 2008 has been set at 25,000 entrants. 23,869 runners entered the 2007 Boston Marathon.

To qualify for the 112th Boston Marathon, runners must meet the designated time standard for their age group. Qualifying times must be run on or after September 23, 2006 at a certified marathon. Qualifying standards may be viewed at www.baa.org/BostonMarathon/Qualifying.asp. Seeding of the race is based on qualifying times, which are subject to review and verification.

In addition to online registration, runners may download a PDF application at www.baa.org, or request a hard-copy application by emailing registration@baa.org. Entries will be accepted until the maximum field size of 25,000 athletes has been reached.

The 2008 Boston Marathon will once again feature a two-wave start, with Wave One beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by Wave Two at 10:30 a.m.

Adding to the festivities during Boston Marathon weekend this year will be the U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Women's Marathon, which will take place in downtown Boston and Cambridge on Sunday, April 20 at 8:00 a.m. The top three finishers in that event will represent the United States in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Run Club Update

Hi Everyone!

Has everyone been out training in those beautiful fall colours? What a chance to enjoy the cooling weather!

Also coming in is a sidewalk sale! Starting September 12th and running until September 23rd, there are some hot deals and great chances to maybe grab an old favorite pair of shoes.

Speaking of hot deals, the Vector promotion is nearly at an end. Coincidentally, it ends the same day as the Ramsey Tour - could this be a cosmic hint not to hold back on getting that new outfit for the big race?

The Customer Appreciation coupons distributed last week are also valid only until this Sunday. A great chance to get some reflective gear to stay safe on those shorter fall days.

Tip of the week:
Basic running is as simple as putting one foot in front of the other quickly, but there are various kinds of running that can be used for different purposes: speed work, for instance, such as interval training and fartleks, helps a runner run faster; hill work builds strength; long runs build endurance.
From Running Room's Book on Running by John Stanton

This week's product highlight:
The fall Garmin Forerunner 205 Runner's Pack is a super-sensitive GPS which works in areas such as trails and between tall buildings. It continuously monitors time, pace, distance and calories to help you get the most out of your training time and the unit comes with the software you need to download and analyze your workouts.

We are currently seeking a motivated individual to join our management team. Interested parties are encouraged to bring a resume to the Running Room.

Track North News - by Dick Moss

Friday, August 31, 2007

Well, I know one nordic skier who can run. Devon Kershaw ran a 5k time trial today - on the Laurentian track, in flats, alone except for two timers, and hammered a personal best 15:03! His splits were 1k: 2:45, 3k: 8:50.

For those of you who don't know him, Devon is a TNOR alumni who is a member of the Canadian Olympic Nordic ski team. He has already been a world cup medalist in the sprints.
