Water Waddle
5Km Walk/Run Around Minnow Lake

|
The last time a road race went around the perimeter
of Minnow Lake was in 1980 when the Sudbury Fitness
Challenge used the venue for their "Sun Run"
5k and 10k events. Finally 27 years later Kris Conroy,
Manager of Sudbury's Running Room, got a few volunteers
together and organized a neat little 5k around the
lake. The course fully circles Minnow Lake. About
1/2 is on bike lanes and the remaining sections are
on low density traffic streets. There's also a bonus
paved path through the Minnow Lake forest. The event
was organized to give assistance to our local chapter
of the Canadian Red Cross. In appreciation Red Cross
members provided many of the volunteer marshals for
the run.
The group of walkers and runners was not large (31
registrants) but they were all enthusiastic and encompassed
all levels.
Ben Sidney took top honours (19:29) with Mark Nellis
(20:19) and Peter Villa (20:45) taking second and
third. Lisa Stafford was top lady (21:59). Amanda
Seed (22:30) and Stephanie Koett (22:36) took the
next 2 spots. In the Walking category, Russ Thom continues
to improve his form and walked to a personal best
25:46. Charles Nellis took 2nd in 51:49. Top placers
received Running Room money cards and all participants
were provided with unique 1 litre water bottles.
Congratulations to Running Room Clinic members who
accepted the challenge to take part in their first
event. Everyone finished strong and smiling...at least
after the finish line.
Unofficial participants included Lars Molino in a
baby jogger pushed by Kirsty Fransen with husband
Loris running along beside in only his 2nd official
race ever. Emily Anderson also enjoyed the scenic
course from her jogger as she was pushed by runners
Laura and Drew Anderson. Our future speedsters are
being groomed.
Good going all and thank you for coming out.

Delki-Dozzi
End-of-Season
Stage Race
September
1st and 2nd, 2007
|
The Sudbury Cycling Club is
proud to host the Delki-Dozzi End-of-Season Stage Race on
Sept 1st and 2nd. The first event (Saturday) will be a Time
Trial, and the second event (Sunday) will be a Criterium.
Both are on the Delki-Dozzi track. Riders may compete in any
one event, however cash prizes will be awarded only for those
who compete in both stages. There will be time allotted for
a make-up time trial on Sunday for those unable to make Saturday’s
race. All riders, volunteers, and their family are invited
to attend a post-race social event following shortly after
Sunday’s race.
Non Sudbury Cycling
Club members may compete in one or both stages by purchasing
a “One-Event Membership” of $25.00 (to cover OCA
insurance costs) in additional to the event entry fee.
