From www.Trisportcanada.com:
June 18, 2007- A great big
congratulations to everyone who competed at the Muskoka
Chase this past weekend! It was a blast! Congratulations
also must go to Craig Alexander and Samantha McGlone ;
our top 2 chase winners.June 18, 2007- A great big congratulations
to everyone who competed at the Muskoka Chase this past
weekend! It was a blast! The pros loved the new bike course
as did many of you. Thank you for your continued patience
and positive feedback. The Town of Huntsville, District
of Muskoka and the Lake of Bays did a fabulous job getting
the roads ready for us. We can't wait until next year!
Congratulations
to all local competitors. We had participants in all events
from the Sprint Triathlon and Relay plus a Kids Event
on Saturday to the Long Course Duathlon and Triathlon
on Sunday.
| Triathlon
Itch/Twitch
by Laura Haapamaki
I decided to write a little
race report about my triathlon itch...or wait, maybe
that is, triathlon twitch. Either or, here is my
story.
It started out as a normal
telephone call with Sheila where we simply started
out discussing our day and our plans for the weekend.
Somehow (i'm a little blurry on this) in the end,
we decided that we were going to enter a relay team
for the sprint triathlon in Huntsville. I was going
to swim, Sheila was going to bike, and then we would
finish the race by running together. I guess, because
of this "triathlon itch (or twitch)" it
sounded like a good idea. Maybe I forgot that I
was NINE MONTHS PREGNANT!!!
Anyhow, day of the race comes,
and besides feeling a bit nervous about entering
the cold water without a wetsuit, I felt pretty
confident that this would be a piece of cake. I
had my warnings from Jan to swim at the back of
the pack to avoid being kicked (I was even yelled
at by Jan and Sheila as I was waiting in the water
for my turn to go). The only difficult part of the
swim was allowing people to pass me and even stopping
to let people ahead of me. I really wanted to get
in there and kick some...well anyway, I took my
time and came out the water in a somewhat half decent
time (I guess). The looks on peoples faces as the
big prego lady emerged from the water was absolutely
hilarious. However I didn't have time to stick around
to look at people, as I had to run up to transition
so Sheila could get on her bike and go.
Her bike went really well,
as she came in after only 44 minutes, and then we
were off for our run. By this time, the sun was
out full blast and I was already starting to sweat.
We took our time though and walked the hills and
through the water stations. It took us 40 some minutes
to get through the run, but I was really proud that
I managed the whole thing. There was great support
from other Sudburians and complete strangers. I
felt strong crossing the finish line and was excited
that I was able to say that I completed a triathlon
36 weeks into my pregnancy.
Now comes the pain...It wasn't
until that night and the next day that I felt utterly
horrible. My calf muscles kept cramping at night
and my stomach felt like it was going to pop. It
wasn't until today (wednesday), that I could honestly
say that I feel 75% better. I had huge plans to
do the relay tri with Drew in Guelph this weekend,
but I think I will let him do the racing, and I
will just take it easy until my little girl comes...well...except
for when I do the firecracker 5km that is...
I just wanted to thank everyone
that was at Muskoka for their support, and to say
that I really wanted to be there for the racers
doing the long course, but there was nooooooo way
that I was able to get out of bed that early. Also,
I really did have a good time, and I am really glad
that Sheila and I did this together. Thankfully
though, my "triathlon itch (or twitch)"
has been cured. At least until I have this baby.

The race and registration takes place at the Delki Dozzi
Track. Registration opens at 9:45AM, and the racing starts
at 10:00 and 10:30
There will be 3 Categories – A, B, and C.
A – Will be for accomplished and most competitive
riders. 40KM, with registration at 9:45 race starts at 10:30
- $5 entry

riders. Also 40KM, and will start 15 seconds after the A
group - $5 entry
C – Will be for people new to the sport,
or racing. This will be a short 15km race, and the track
will be closed to other riders so people are more comfortable.
IT IS FREE TO ENTER. This is
intended to get people exposed to cycling, and no one should
be intimidated to give it a try.
People are required to have OCA insurance, and it will
be available for sale at the time of registration. It is
$25 and covers people for the entire year. (You can race
at all club races with the annual insurance purchase) This
means if you bought the insurance for the spring race, it
is not necessary for this race.
We are planning to have a pre race clinic for people that
are new to racing to go over the rules, tactics, and safety
issues. The clinic will be tentatively set for 9:00 AM on
Saturday the 30th prior to the race. Please check www.sudburycc.ca
for updates regarding the race clinic.
If racing is not your thing, feel free to come out and

Club Update |
The
Running Room Club Update:
Sudbury Store (Cedar Pointe Plaza)
Hi Everyone!
I hope you all have been enjoying this beautiful sunny
weather we've had for the past few days!
The Learn to Run and 5K Run groups which started last night
had a hot and sweaty inaugural run, which they completed
with flying colours! Good job you guys!
Tonight, the Half-Marathon Run for the Scotiabank Waterfront
begins with Adrian Forsyth as your Instructor for the next
sixteen weeks. Time for some good summer fun!
Tip of the week:
With all the high UV index ratings we've had for the past
week, people who are spending time out of doors need to
consider protecting themselves from the sun. Protection
includes a hat, glasses with a 100% UVA/UVB rating, and
sunscreen. For runners and walkers who are outside for an
extended period of time should consider carrying a travel
size container of sunscreen so they can re-apply periodically
during activity. A variety of clothing with SPF ratings
are available as well, so that lightweight clothes become
less of a concern. Think of protecting the rest of your
body the way you protect your feet with good shoes - both
will keep you moving happy and healthy for years to come.
If you missed the first day of these clinics, don't worry!
We've still got room for you to come out and join us for
a great time over the next ten weeks.
