Rocks!! Run in the 11th Annual Chilly in Burlington

A record field of 3137 participants lined up in Burlington this year for their 11th Annual Chilly 1/2 and Frosty 5k. And to make things more interesting a Walk Only 1/2 Marathon was established with "walk only" rules applying.

Once again Sudbury was well represented by Rocks!! and locals as 12 of us walked and ran the 1/2 and Henriette Washchuk handled the 5k.

The weather has been tricky in the last few weeks but conditions ended up ok on race day as temperatures hovered around -3 deg. under mostly overcast skies. There was a pesky 20+k west wind but the runners were reasonably protected from its full force by surrounding buildings and terrain. It did slow us in the last 8k coming home on Lakeshore but probably provided some assistance on the way out. All in all - a good running day.

Congratulations to all our participants. You now have another successful event under your belt and a neat Chilly medal to prove it.

Run Club Update

The Running Room Club Update: March 6, 2007
Sudbury Store (Cedar Pointe Plaza)

Hello Everyone!

Well, it looks like we're back into a deep freeze for the next couple of days. After getting spoiled with some warmer, sunny weather we're getting a reminder that winter doesn't end for another couple of weeks.

What is a couple of weeks early this year is the change to daylight savings time. Remember to put your clock ahead one hour before going to bed on Saturday. This has big implication to making it to Practice Club on time Sunday morning.

Tip of the Week: Remember to properly hydrate throughout the cold weather. Freezing water can be a problem so wear your water belt underneath your jacket, closer to your body to take advantage of all that heat you are producing. Being properly hydrated allows your body to regulate temperature, transport energy and nutrients, and remove waste products. A well-watered runner/ walker is a happier runner/ walker.

Water belts are available in a wide variety of styles. Single bottle angled torso belts, four-bottle belts, three bottles and a gel pack; there is a belt that will meet your particular needs as a runner or walker. The Running Room staff can help you select your perfect hydration match!

Sunday March 18th at 8:30am is our St. Paddy's Green Fun Run. We will have a FREE 5K and 10K Fun Runs. There is a little Irish in everyone! Find your green hats, sweaters, and tights and come celebrate with the shenanigans of St. Patrick's Day with us!

Lunch and Learns Let us fill you and your staff in on the benefits of running and walking, about the Running Room clinics, or our FREE Run/Walk club. Contact us and we can set up a time for a visit. These visits are Free, and come with some nice Running Room Discounts!

Registration fees for the SudburyRocks!!! Race Run or Walk for Diabetes will go up on April 16th. For Marathon and Half-Marathon participants, register early to make sure you get one of the technical t-shirts - limited to the first 300. You can register online at www.sudburyrocksmarathon.ca , www.runningroom.com , or here at the Running Room.

The Ottawa Race Weekend is fast approaching and registration fees increase on May 1st. Register on-line at www.runningroom.com or in-store.

The INCO Walden Firecracker 5K is now accepting registrations. The cost is $2 for kids 12 and under, $20 for individuals and $50 for families. Registration is available in-store and online at www.runningroom.com.

Are you looking to train for a particular event such as the SudburyROCKS!! Ellerton at the Alex Wilson

March 3 - Andrew Ellerton busted out a 1:47.2/800m split in Michigan's third place finish at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame last night. That's moves Michigan from 22nd to 4th in the NCAA and qualifies them for Nationals. He runs the 800m open tonight.

March 4 - Andrew finished his weekend by winning the open 800m at the Alex Wilson Invitational, in a time of 1:49.30 - off a very slow first 200m of 28.
