Rocks!! Run in Robbie
Burns 8k
Rocks!! member, Steve Fessenden and his partner
Melanie Muise travelled to Burlington this Sunday to compete
in the 28th Annual Robbie Burns 8k.
The event is put on faithfully every year by the
Burlington Runners Club and attracts nearly 800 runners - and
some very fast ones too. The course records are Kathy
Butler (1993) 26:52
Gary Westgate (1990) 23:11
Nobody approached Cathy and Gary's times this year but our North
Bay Rock!!, Tim Uuksulainen's son, Erik Uuksulainen, pulled
down 8th overall in 27:47.
Steve Fessenden had an excellent outing coming
67th overall and 11th in his age group (32:53 SM40-44 11/53)
in a time of 32:53.
It appears Steve and Melanie Muise just may have
had a private competition going on as their finishing times
were very close. Mel crossed the line in 80th place overall
and 4th in her age group (SF25-29 4/27) in a time of 33:16.

5th Annual Run in Memory of Kurt Gelbhaar

On Saturday, February 3, the Sudbury Rocks!!
Running Club will hosting our fifth annual Run
in Memory of Kurt Gelbhaar.
Kurt died suddenly on Tuesday, January 29, 2002. He was in
his 79th year and still running competitively. He was a mentor
and inspiration to most local runners and it is fitting his
actions be remembered.
The Run will be very informal.
There will be no set distances and it is not a race. We will
meet in the lobby of the Cambrian Fitness Centre off Lorne St.
at 9:00 am . The run will start at approximately 9:15 am and
will proceed at a leisurely pace towards Bell Park and Science
North. Runners are free to go whatever distance appeals to them
or fits their schedule but ALL runners will be encouraged to
stick together for the first 1/2 hour.
