Weekend Racing Report

The 30th Anniversary of the Sudbury Masters Ramsey Tour saw 123 entrants in the 5k and 72 participants in the 1/2 marathon. Cool temperatures contributed to fast times and some good competition on the roads in both events. We had quite a few visitors from out of town this year and Timmins was especially well represented. I think quite a few out of towners and first timers on the course were a little dismayed by the early hills. No problems though as everyone finished strong.

In the 5k event the top 3 males were 1 - Evan Bayer in 17:25, 2- Eric Ouellette in and Adam Hopkin in 17:53. The top ladies were: 1 - Leila Angrand in 18:18, 2 - Lindsy McNicoll in 19:23 and 3 - Melanie Muise in 20:05

In the Ramsey Tour 1/2 Marathon Mike Hay won the day in 1:17:36. Sylvan Gauthier came in second place in 1:22:53. Masters runner Frank Lesk took third position in 1:25:07. The top three ladies were 1 - Kerry Salmoni in 1:34:43, 2 - Stacy Haner in 1:44:03 and 3 - Erin Kennedy in 1:35:32.

This 30th year saw the introduction of finishing medals for all 1/2 marathoners. This was a welcome addition to the run that already provided t-shirts and a light lunch to all participants for a very low entry price. Thank you Run Directors. And we'll see you all again next year.

Haliburton Forest Trail Run

September 9, 2006

Every year the Ontario Ultra Series hosts a number of trail runs in the Haliburton Forest. The events range from a 25k, 50k, 50 miler and ultimately a 100 miler. Three of our Rocks!! members took on the 25k event on Saturday. Monique Fournier, Karen Beaulieu and David Chisholm burned up the "short course" in just over 3 hours. No official results have been posted for the events yet. The official website is here.
