    Clinics

   Hello Everyone,                                                                                              August 10, 2006

In this Issue:

  1. Sudbury Fitness Challenge "Mountain Bike Tour"
  2. Belwood Lake Tri Reults
  3. Upcoming Events - North Bay's "Blue Sky" 15k and 5k

August 5, 2006

This was the first year the Tour was moved from its traditional trails in the Laurentian University area to the ski trails at Capreol and I believe the change of venue is for the better. The trails are a good workout but not too technical and the 8k loops provide some excitement for spectators as they can see the race progressing.

There was something for all comers. From a Kids 1k out and back sprint all the way to a 3 lap 24k tour of the ski trails plus a bonus Mountain Race to cap things off. A King,Queen and Prince of the Mountain polka dot medal was awarded to the first Male, Female and Youngster to get to the top of the ski hill - This was fun to watch!

1k - Tony Duval Henri led 4 other hard charging young ones across the finish tape to take top honours

5k - Adam Geogan & Laura Hovingh were top male and females in the 5k

1 Loop 8k - Christian and Natalie Trottier successfully completed the 1 loop trail bike

2 Loop 16k - John Leonard was first male and Lindsey McNicoll was first Lady.

3 Loop 24k - Benny Doucette was the master of the 24k completing the 3 laps in under 1 hour. Kristin                       Zazalenchuk  was first female in 1:17.

King of the Mountain - Kyle Tarlten

Queen of the Mountain - Kristin Zazalenchuk

Prince of the Mountain - Justin Leonard

Thank you to Race Director John Leonard and his wife Celena for organizing an excellent local event. Thanks as well to all volunteers and the town of Capreol for welcoming the Tour. I hope we're back here again next year.

Belwood Lake Triathlon Results

Former Sudburian, Wolfgang (Kyle) Guembel and his wife Nicole plus Jody Nadjiwon and Rocks!! member Steve Fessenden travelled to Belwood Lake for this year's tri (Triathlon - Swim 1km, Bike 33km, Run 7km). Kyle finished third overall and Nicole was first female. Jody and Steve had close times with Steve making up some ground on the run to finish just ahead. (not that they were competing against each other).

Run Club Update

The Running Room Club Update: August 9, 2006
Sudbury Store (Cedar Pointe Plaza)

Hi Everybody!

I hope everyone is enjoying this awesome weather - it's great that the humidity of the previous weeks has finally gone down. The amount of sunshine we're experiencing is also going down...the autumn season is on its way!

Speaking of sunshine, its time for this week's tip! Make sure you're protecting your body from harmful UVA and UVB rays by (1) wearing opaque clothing which covers as much of your body as is possible and practical, (2) wearing 1005 UVA and UVB protective sunglasses, (3) a hat to shield your eyes, and (4) SUNSCREEN!!! Sunscreen is necessary to protect exposed skin, including skin not protected by opaque clothing, from harmful UVA and UVB rays. The amount of SPF you require will vary with the amount of time you expect to spend in the sun as well as personal factors which may dictate a higher SPF. Choose a sunscreen with the appropriate SPF which is both water and sweatproof. Sunscreen should be applied approximately thirty minutes prior to any outdoor activity and should be reapplied frequently when sweating heavily. On days when you are completing longer runs it may be beneficial to have a small container of sunscreen wi! th you, so that you can reapply as necessary.

This week's product highlight: new FuelBelts! FuelBelt has come out with a more feminine version of an old favourite. The CRUSH angled single bottle carrier (retailing at $29.99) offers even weight distribution, no bottle-bounce and an adjustable fit in an eye-catching lavender. Ask one of the Running Room staff to help you fit this product, in small to extra large.
