Sudbury Rocks!! "SANTA HAT RUN"

this Saturday

Everyone is invited to join the Sudbury Rocks!! Running Club for our Annual Santa Hat Run. The event is an informal celebration of the season where members, friends and enthusiasts get together for a casual run through Sudbury neighbourhoods. We meet in the lobby of the Cambrian Fitness Centre on Lorne St at 9:00 am and after the official Santa Hat photo, the group takes to the streets for runs of about 1/2 hour to 90 minutes. Coffee and sweets are served after the happy group have returned. All runners are welcome. Don't forget to bring your Santa hats or toques.

Well the cold weather has definitely arrived with a vengeance. The last few mornings have made us think about our layers and whether they are going to keep us warm and dry on that crisp morning run or walk. It’s still not too late to come into the store and leave some hints for Santa as for styles and sizes that you would like for Christmas. Our Christmas Registry can be found on the front desk, you pick the styles and sizes and we make sure that Santa delivers.

PRACTICE TIMES

Wednesdays @ 6pm and Sundays @ 8:30am

As an incentive for our runners and walkers we will have a draw for the next four practice sessions for everyone that comes in for practice. The draw will be made while you are out so when you get back to grab your keys, you’ll see if your name is on the board and pick up your prize.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Hypothermic Half Marathon – February 5, 2006 - $50 before Jan. 1st and $60 from Jan.1st to February 4th, 2006. This event is limited to 50 participants so don’t delay in registration. The registration fee includes an embroidered fleece toque and a drawstring bag. All participants receive a fabulous post run brunch at Buzzy Browns. This event is to benefit the Canadian Diabetes Association. We’ve already got 10 spots taken so I suspect this event will sell out way before the event so don’t delay…Rumour has it that Vince Perdue will finally be running a local event and not timing. This is a great run for all those runners suffering from the winter blahs. I’ve got it on my things to do event list for 2006.

Mike's Tri Adventure

- by Mike Coughlin

Mike's TRi Website

Welcome to Mike's Tri Adventure

My name is Mike Coughlin and I am a triathlete from Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. In 2001 I started training for triathlons for fun and fitness. I discovered that the sport also provides great opportunities to learn about yourself and meet fascinating people.

This winter, I decided to follow my triathlon dreams and train full time for 5 months, visiting several triathlon hotbeds and training my body and mind to be stronger than ever. Along the way I look forward to meeting interesting people, seeing some new places and taking the experiences as they come. I designed this website to write about these experiences for myself, friends and family.

Days Twenty Three to Thirty - First week in New Zealand

Well I can't believe I've been in NZ a week already! Upon my arrival last Thursday afternoon, I was picked up by my new host Mike Wilson and whisked back to the Bottle Lake Lodge in Northern Christchurch where I will be staying with other athletes for the next several months. Then it was off to the QEII pool to get acquainted with the new training facilities, which are excellent, before some grocery shopping and some much needed sleep.
