Mike Coughlin and Kyle Guembel Tri in Florida

Rocks!! member, Mike Coughlin and local professional Tri athlete, Kyle Guembel, tested themselves this weekend in the Florida 1/2 Ironman Triathlon. Kyle finished in an awesome 14th pace overall (4:15:34) and Mike continues to push his performance to new levels with an 80th placing overall (4:39:11). Congratulations to both.

Our Southern Rock!! Paces Friend in 8Km Trail Run

Panther Creek, Morristown Tn.

When asked if she would pace a friend to a personal best our Southern Rock, Karen Beaulieu, definitely hesitated before replying in the affirmative. For those who know Karen, she doesn't like to follow, she doesn't like to pace and she definitely doesn't like to lose - especially on purpose. In the end she did the right thing and sucked up her pride and dutifully ran one encouraging step behind her charge. The result was an excellent 2nd place age group finish for her friend, Bev Leamon, and a third place finish for Karen. Was she happy? I'll let Ms. B. explain:

Karen writes:

Hey guys thought I should drop ya'll a line and let you know whassup.. ran the panther creek trail race this morning with Beverly and yes Vince I did stay behind her the entire time including the finish line. AND I have decided NOT to blow another race to allow someone to finish ahead.!! I was very tempted to move ahead but did not bite. Of course Monique was not happy to hear that I let Bev come in ahead but I know that she would not like to win a race handed to her on a platter as there is no true sense of accomplishment in such a win. You know that victory would not be sweet if I "let" you win. You know that you truly want to earn your bragging rights ...if you insist i would let you come in first but then again I know how much we value our friendship so I must save you from a fake victory. Anyway's Monique you'd be so psyched out constantly checking over your shoulder , wondering when i was going to sneak on by.... in case people don't know Monique and I have a friendly rivalry that has been going on forever and there seems to be no end in sight. ha ha or should I say he he.. It was a great race and a great day. I am so looking forward to running on trails when i get back home and also joining the old gang on the roads for an occasional run . Next Sat. i run my last race here before packing up and coming Home.. C ya Ms. B

Congratulations Ms. B. You did good

Worlds Harmony Run Visits Sudbury

Members of the Sudbury Rocks!!, the Running Room and the Greater City of Sudbury welcomed the World Harmony Run Group to our City. The Run is a global relay that seeks to promote international friendship and understanding. As a symbol of harmony, runners carry a flaming torch, passing it from hand to hand between members of thousands of local communities, traveling through over 70 countries around the globe.

Vince Perdue, Monique Fournier and Donna Smrek were honoured to escort members of the Harmony Run in a 5Km jog from the Running Room to City Hall. Flags and the torch were exchanged numerous times on the course and there were lots of positive honks and waves as we made our way through the city.

The Group was met by at City Hall by Councilor Rivet who officially exchanged the torch and wished the Group well on their further journeys. And we all wish the Group well. They are a positive inspiration to all they meet.

Paul Washchuk volunteered to be our support driver on the day ensuring all runners were returned to the Running Room safely.

YTri Spring Announcements

Due to the fact that this Sunday May 8th is Mother's Day (be good to you mom!), I am rescheduling the 2005 Tri Season Kick-off BBQ and Talk for FRIDAY MAY 27. The idea is to host the event after whatever YTri workout gets scheduled for that day.

The event will take place at the home of Paul Graham, 726 Hillsdale Crescent, off York St. in Sudbury.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=726+hillsdale+crescent+sudbury+ontario&hl=en

As planned, this evening will be a chance to get together socially and meet other folks interested in triathlon, plan our summer season and coordinate rides to some of the events many of us will be going to.

Stay tuned as more details about this event will be sent your way shortly. In the meantime, please RSVP your attendance to mike@discomfortzone.om

Happy training,

Mike
