Sudbury Fitness Challenge on the lookout for volunteers

by Mike Coughlin

With the Sun Run just around the corner, the Sudbury Fitness Challenge are on the lookout for volunteers. This year, John Leonard is in charge of volunteer recruitment and care for all Sudbury Fitness Challenge events. If you are looking to get involved with this great fitness event series, we would love to have you. Our needs vary from folks to help with course set-up and promotion to marshals and water station volunteers.

I know many of you have helped with the Sun Run and other events in the past, and with the 2005 season looking to be a lot bigger and better organized, we need your great energy more than ever. Still want to race? No problem, we have volunteer positions that will allow that as well.

YTri Wednesday Swim continues until the end of April

It won't be long before our glorious lakes melt and the water warms up enough to swim. Therefore, this is a perfect time to take that swim training you have been putting off and get yourself in super swimming shape.

For Wednesday mornings in April (and tomorrow, March 29), the YTri Wednesday swim series will continue. These workouts are a safe, challenging and fun way to improve your water confidence, technique, endurance and speed in time for the open water season.

Sessions run from 6:00-7:30am on Wednesday mornings. Some swimmers come for 30-45 minutes and others for the whole hour and a half. Each session has a beginner and intermediate workout to meet individual needs.

The focus of the sessions is on technique development, fitness and fun! Come on out and get your feet wet with us!

New location and route announced for the Sun Run on May 1

After much deliberation, the Sudbury Fitness Challenge Sun Run committee has decided to host the annual 2k/5k/10k/21.1k event at a different location this year, namely the Jim Jerome Sports Complex at Lily Creek. The route will wind its way through the hospital area and south end of Sudbury and should provide an enjoyable experience for participants and increased exposure of the run within our community.

The below link will take you to a copy of the Sun Run course map, which you can use to contemplate which event you plan to enter on May 1.
