Eric Wohlberg Rides in his Third Olympics

From Canadian Cyclist News:

Lone Canadian entrant Eric Wohlberg was in this group, and was fifth fastest for the wave, and finished a very credible 18th overall; an extremely strong result in what is probably the strongest field ever assembled for an Olympic time trial.

Eric Wohlberg - "It's not too bad a ride for riding superstock in the top fuel class (laughs). I lost a wheel magnet on my wheel early, and I generally gear off my speed, so I might have lost a couple of seconds here or there.

It wasn't as windy (as earlier in the week), but definitely still windy on the way out. For me, windy is probably better than hilly, because I have a good aero position it helps me. I was just going as hard as I could.

Saturday (when he flatted, and then was dropped in the road race) was disappointing, so I was glad to have a chance to redeem myself. Twice now I've been top-20 at the Olympics, but still only get a spot a week before, which is frustrating. Of course, would have been better if knew before, but after Beauce I was doing a lot of motorpacing anyway. If the CCA wants to send me to Worlds for the time trial I'll have time to prepare properly.

Finally, I also wanted to pass on the word that the staff has been just killing themselves for us here. For once, we are getting as good support, or better, than we would on our trade teams."

Orillia's "Northern Triathlon" Results

Nine locals including 3 Sudbury Rocks!! competed in the Try a Tri and the Full Triathlon in Orillia on Sunday. This was Meghan West's first foray into competition and she finished strongly in the Try aTri. Meghan is the daughter of Katherine (Leslie) McLosky who competed here in the Triathlon and is also an Ironman Lake Placid and Canada finisher. Donna Smrek, fellow Rock!! and Running Room Manager, informed me she placed better this year than in previous outings and almost made it to 10th place in her age group. But she couldn't quite catch up to one runner just ahead of her and then 2 people snuck by her in the closing meters. How fair is that?

Congratulations Everyone!

A Rock!! Reports on the "Kash End of Summer Dash"

by Ken Stubbings

The Kash End of Summer Dash 10k race was a success again this year. The weather was beautiful. I had forgotten just how difficult the course is though. The last 5.5k are a continuous road of roller coaster like hills one after another. The BBQ at the end was also very tasty. My finish time was 34 seconds slower than last year, putting me in at 38:26. There is one turn around point on the course of which the exact turning point was poorly marked and with no marshal. I later found out that some of us, including myself, went past the correct turning point. I finished 4th over all and first for the old fellows age group. Ah but the best was yet to come.

Remember a couple of years ago I told you about a time when Lynn and I caught two people "doing the nasty" in a cemetery. Welllllll life just gets better. The Kash Dash is held at the beautiful Wigamog Inn near Haliburton. After the run, many runners go for a swim at the beach. I, as do 99.999% of the people, go in the water with our running clothes on. I come out of the water and start to dry off. There are not very many of us on the beach at this time. A woman is standing with her child helping him to change into a swimming suit. I am about 10 feet in front of them. She then takes off her running top. Holy bazookas batman! She then takes off her running shorts. Holy female body parts!!! It is a good job the water was cold during my swim, or there could have been a very embarrassing moment for me. Try hiding that in running shorts. Wait!! Where is Lynn???? Yep!! She is standing at the road offering a slight disgusted look. Not with me though, Lynn is disgusted with the woman. After all, I am a guy, and we will look. As for the woman; she put on her swim suit and went for dip.

Best prize I ever got at a run. Massey, you can keep your wooden stools.

Ken
