Fitfriends Organizers
extend a thank you to Rocks!! volunteers

On behalf of FitFriends I
would like to thank you, Lise and all of the great volunteers
from the Sudbury Rocks club for their time and efforts on
May 9, 2004 at the "Doing it and More in 2004"
event. I truly do appreciate all of your help, without the
Rocks, this event wouldn't be possible... maybe next year
the Rocks name should be incorporated with the slogan...
I'll gladly take any suggestions.
So once again, thank you, I don't think that words can express
my appreciation,
Lise Edwards & Donna Smrek

Loads of Rocks!! and numerous other local runners will be

weekend.
Don't forget to submit an article about your
experiences when the run is over. Good

Our Cobourg Rocks!!
run YMCA 5k....FAST
From Ken Stubbings:
Hello Everyone,
We are very proud down here. Lynn flew in third place for
the age group 30 to 39 at the Cobourg Family YMCA 5K Run.
This was her first time ever placing in a run. Her time was
31:17. She felt great at the finish.
The weather was perfect at 15 degrees and overcast. We had
48 runners in the 5K race and there were some more people
in the 3K fun walk. All proceeds went to the Y Kids Summer
Camp.
I had a P.B. with a time of 17:47. I placed second overall
and first 40 to 49 age group.
We hope everyone going to Ottawa has a safe run and achieves
their goals. I hate saying "good luck" because it
is not about luck. It is about your good times and hard work.
See ya soon,
Ken
Congratulations
from all of us to Lynn and Ken!

Team Diabetes Canada
is searching for "Adventure Fundraisers"

From: Amanda Luoma
Fund Development Coordinator
Dear Vince,
I am writing to inform you of a unique opportunity
for your members to support the Canadian Diabetes Association
while challenging themselves to achieve a remarkable personal
goal through Team Diabetes Canada.
Team Diabetes Canada is an adventure fundraiser
where participants choose to complete a marathon, triathlon,
mountain bike trek or adventure racing event to raise money
for diabetes and the Canadian Diabetes Association. The program
brings dynamic Canadians together to create awareness for
the work of the Association and to emphasize the importance
and benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Marathons take place in such exotic destinations
as; Reykjavik, Dublin, Bermuda, Honolulu, Rome, Amsterdam
and New Orleans (Mardi Gras).
Diabetes has reached epidemic proportions
in our community with over 11,000 Sudbury area residents diagnosed.
Another 3,600 residents are living with diabetes and have
yet to recognize the signs. Alarmingly, 115,000 individuals
in our community have at least one modifiable risk factor
for developing Type 2 diabetes.
Team Diabetes Canada has generated more than
$3.7 million since it began in 2000. Each participant is responsible
for raising a minimum of $5,500 and for that they receive:
· Guaranteed entry into the marathon
· 14-week training program for walking or running a
marathon or half-marathon
· Return airfare and accommodations (based on double
occupancy)
· Regularly scheduled group runs(dependent upon number
of registered participants in area)
· Official Team Diabetes Canada uniform including race
singlet and team t-shirt
· Fund-raising support and expertise
· Information on: Nutrition; Proper footwear and biomechanics;
Physiology and psychology of running
· Maximum motivation from your support team, including
lots of personal encouragement at training runs and pre-race
get-togethers
· The chance to earn great prizes
Should you have any questions please contact
me at 670-1993 ext. 2.
Amanda Luoma
Fund Development Coordinator
Vince adds: For those who are interested
please give Amanda a call and/or visit the Team Diabetes
website
HERE. This site has also been added to our "Links"
page to facilitate easy access anytime.
Fellow Rock!!/Fitfriends member, Lise Edwards, has signed
up and will be joining the team.
Lise is considering the Honolulu marathon. Kyle Guembel
is already aboard and will be doing the Canadian Ironman
Triathlon. Read more about his effort and request for assistance
below.

Kyle
Guembel IS an "Adventure Fundraiser"
and requests our support
Hello Vince,
My name is Kyle Guembel and I would like to invite you and
your club
members to join us for a Semi-Formal Dinner: Saturday June
05 at the Howard Johnson Hotel Sudbury, Cocktails 6:00-7:00
and Dinner at 7:00-9:00 in an effort to raise funds for the
Canadian Diabetes Association.
In addition to my Olympic distance triathlon training I
am also training to race as a member of Team Diabetes Canada
at IronMan Canada this coming August. I have pledged to complete
the event and raise a minimum of $8,000 for the CDA.
The dinner will consist of catered meal and a cash bar. Non-alcoholic
drinks will be available free of charge and there will be
various forms of
entertainment. There will be a 15 minute local documentary
about three
Northern Ontario families living with the disease and a short
slideshow
presentation from my racing experiences in Europe from last
summer (I was
racing for a pro triathlon team in Munich Germany and traveled
in Europe
for racing). There will also be a silent auction during the
evening.
Tickets are $50 and it includes dinner, gratuities, and
$25 donation to the CDA. Tax
receipts for the $25 donation will be issued to each ticket
holder from the
CDA office in Toronto.

information.
I hope you will be keen on joining us,

CITY CHAMPIONSHIPS
2004
Congratulations to all of our athletes on an excellent City
Championships. Some of the best races, with runners pushing
each other right to the finish line, were between TNOR athletes:
i.e. Jeff and Paul in the 400 & 800, Dave and Jeff in
the 400, Ryan and Dave in the 300H. A number of PB's were
set and TNOR athletes figured prominently in the aggregate
awards.
Below is a list of TNOR results. If I've missed you let me
know. I don't know everybody's PB's, so if you ran a PB that
wasn't noted, let me know (by email). I'm just developing
a database that will include all that information.
