The "Running Room"store is a go for Sudbury

E-mail from Donna Smrek: Friday, March 5, 2004

Hi Vince

Well we did it - the Running Room will be here in May (June at the latest). Refton met with me this am and confirmed the location in the Cedar Pointe Mall - beside Buzzy Brown

Donna Smrek
Manager - Running Room Sudbury

Donna further reports: Wednesday, March 17, 2004

The location has been confirmed in the Cedar Pointe Plaza and the target date is May 16, 2004. However, Refton thought that may be a bit quick and indicated that the opening would then take place after the Ottawa Marathon, as John would be there that weekend and not available to open our store.

I am currently training in Barrie and will most likely travel to London and Hamilton as well.

I will be organizing Practice Run leaders for Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. These will go every week and will hopefully have some regular leaders

(Donna will be looking for Practice Run Leaders as well as staff members in the upcoming weeks. Her Running Room e-mail address is not active yet but, if you're interested, be prepared with a resume to apply for the job positions. I will let everyone know once she has a business e-mail address. Vince)

Photos from John Stanton's visit to the "Y" on January 29 are posted

Copied From the Running Room Web Site:
Sudbury Rocks! A crowd of over 100 people attended a Free Running Seminar at the Sudbury Y. In addition to the Sudbury Rocks Running group, the Sudbury masters and many new runners joined in the evening of information, food and fun. John Stanton, Refton Blair, Donna Smrek and Annik Ledo provided some tips on running and an overview of the training clinics. Special thanks to Vince Perdue for his help in organizing this fun and informative event leaving everyone inspired to run the trails in Sudbury. Watch for details on the opening of the Sudbury store in the next issue.

Track North News by Dick Moss

Indoor Track Season News

As of the next indoor season, the Laurentian women's XC team will be able to officially compete in indoor track. That will include both the OUA and CIS championships.

This reinstatement is designed to provide our women's XC team with the opportunity (option) to continue competing through the indoor season and to experience the indoor championships - this isn't a return to a full indoor track program. Indoor track will be restricted to participants in the women's XC running program.

Great Performances for Andrew Ellerton and Sarah Junkin

Sudbury Runner travels to Siberia....that's 2555 kms. east of Moscow

(and provides pics)

Roger Townsend Writes: (from last week)

Just a note to let you know I'm in Omsk Siberia and it is a city with an
incredible park called "Park Kultury" that goes for miles with wonderful
running trails and a real full size speed skating rink that must have enough
room for about 30 speed skaters side by side and of course room a single
runner running on the snow on the edge.
