Can you help children in your
community to be active and play safe by having proper
footwear?
I am a professional triathlete
and have competed at four World Championships. A large
portion of my time is devoted to educating and including
kids in organized sports. In partnership with YMCA Sudbury
Strong Kids Campaign I will provide underprivileged
youth in our community proper daily footwear so that
they can participate in physical activities.
The need for kids to be active
and be able to participate in physical activity is more
important than ever in our society today. There are
many road blocks that prevent kids from participating
in physical activity, whether it’s at school,
at the play ground, or here at the YMCA. Having safe
comfortable shoes should not be one of them. My goal
is to ensure that all kids, particularly those from
low – income families, have access to athletics
by providing them with good, quality running shoes.
I’ve set up an application
system where parents can come into the YMCA and apply
for their children to be included in our Safe Shoes
Campaign. On the last Wednesday of each month, I will
deliver a new pair of shoes to each of the youth selected
through the program. Each month I hope to provide 10
kids with running shoes, and then encourage them to
remain active by training for and participating in the
YMCA Run for Strong Kids on Saturday August 27th 2011.
How can you help?
We need people like you to help
make this a reality.
1 - By donating shoes,
2 - By making a monetary donation
to the program (By doing
either you can help provide good, quality footwear that
will allow children to participate safely).
3 - By participating in the
'Y' tri Sprint Challenge on Friday
December 10, 2010
If you are able to help in any
way please contact me directly. I truly believe every
child needs to be encouraged to participate in physical
activity, and deserves to wear proper running shoes
while they are doing it.
